To: Members of SLPOA

Last Wednesday, April 12th , we sat and watched the last ice “disappear” from Star. The Loons joined in with their calling and together with the sound of the waves, Spring, sprang upon our wonderful Star Lake. Now a week later, we’re seeing a few boats and docks in and notice the water level is up a little due to snow melt. It was only in the spring of 2004 we were concerned about low lake levels and it appears our elevation is closer to average now. We are so fortunate to have intake and out flow on Star. We will keep you posted as we monitor.

Annual Meeting

Official Notice

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

9:30 Registration  10:00 Call to Order

Galaxy Resort, 39578 Co. Hwy 41

You are cordially invited to our annual picnic where your board of directors will update you on our initiatives. Your directors have worked on many initiatives to preserve and protect our wonderful asset. Glen and Bob, along with our ex-Pres. Stu Peterson who attended numerous meetings to assist and recommend updates to Shoreline Management will present a Lakeshore Rules Revision Updates. These directors have taken numerous actions on behalf of the SLPOA in an attempt to follow the direction of membership given in the form of a resolution at the June 26, 2004 annual meeting. More importantly, we will be asking members vote on a new resolution, to be submitted to the Ottertail Co. Commissioners and the MN Department of Natural Resources to remove portions of Star Lake from the “General Development” classification and to designate said portions to be classified as “Natural Development”. It is vital that every member of the SLPOA be fully informed and to participate in this process.

Dick York, our Fishing Comm. Chairman, wants to pass on that winter fishing seemed to be down this winter. This could be due to the new sunfish limit and probably due to the poor winter ice conditions. On the Quiram Access, Dick informs us the blacktopping of Beaver Dam Road from 108 is in the hands of the Townships and the engineer to get bids. The DNR will be removing the cabin next to that access and then extending the ramp this summer. The Hwy 108 access on the North end of the lake should also have some DNR activity this summer and the sale of the old resort should be soon final. Bruce Winterfelt plans to meet with our directors on plans for the access upgrade and he anticipates next year implementing the upgrade. There is a new fishing regulation statewide this year, which affects you, walleye fisherman where only one walleye over 20 inches is allowed in possession. Previously it was one walleye over 24 inches.

Mary DuCharme is our Membership chair and is leading our efforts on members. She has welcomed our SLPOA to use their Corner Store as a place where you as members, or new owners, to sign up for our association. The corner store will have applications as well our Management Plan (our SLPOA work plan). We also will have the Directoris there if you have not received yours. We currently have 194 members and need to maintain membership around the 200 members level to ensure our dues can remain at the current level of $20/year. Dues remain unchanged.

Bob Weatherly has chaired our Co. 41 Adopt a Hwy committee and already has gathered volunteers to keep those ditches beautiful. Thank you to Bob and his ditch crew!

Pete Pederson has again received permission from the Sheriffs Dept. to place buoys on our lake for boating safety. I am sure you’ll soon be seeing him “fish” for his anchors and attach markers to mark the danger spots.

Gary Sheldon will again be our Water Quality leader. Gary religiously samples our water and sends it to lab for testing. Those historical information and results is posted at www.rmbel.info for your viewing pleasure. We use this information to help us work on issues as it relates to Star Lake’s water quality. Gary also takes lead on revising other Management Plan information like runoff. Thx Gary.

Please Pay your Dues NOW

Please take just a moment to pay you dues at this time and send it in with any updated membership information. We have enclosed a return envelope for your convenience. Do it today!
