Legend of Star Lake

"Legend of Star Lake... The Chippewa Indians saw a meteor drop into the lake and they named it "Star Lake". ...(The shoreline included) one of the main Indian encampments. Canoes and rings of teepees could always be seen there. Goat Island was the garden spot of the Indians who would canoe over to tend them.... ....During the battle of "Battle Lake" the women and children were brought to Grass Island for safety. Two Sioux chiefs tried to get on the island but were kept off by fire brands. The Chippewa's pursued them as they tried to swim to the main shore but the chiefs did not make it." - Dent Rod and Gun Club Brochure.
